British rider Phil Read races the Yamaha 250cc in the Isle of man TT race in 1968 and won. In the 250cc class Yamaha was undoubtedly supreme in world championships in 1964 and 1965 through British motorcycle race rider Phil Read. Yamaha produced famous racing bikes in the 1960's through steady development converting Yamaha race bikes into world beaters in the 250cc and 125cc classes. Yamaha positive outlook led to development of the V4 250 which in turn produced the historic 125cc counterpart. These two Yamaha water cooled, disc-valve, twin-crankshaft two stroke motorcycles began as extremely complex machines. Phil Read and Bill Ivy were able to established Yamaha's reputation in road racing. The 125cc became the more historic bike, for it was Bill Ivy who clock up the first ever 100mph lap in the 1968 Isle of Man TT. | | |
