In 1978 Mike Hailwood won the Isle of Man Formula 1 TT race on a Ducati motorbike powered by a 864cc air-cooled four cylinder engine. The Ducati 900ss sport machine first appeared in 1975, it was fitted with a five speed chain drive transmission , twin disc front brakes and a single for rear brakes with a top speed of 130mph that lets off a sporty sound which came from the two megaphone exhausts, truly one of the classic Superbikes of its era. Of all the the famous Italian Motorbikes such as Moto Guzzi and though Moto Guzzi machines was successful in racing competitions for nearly 20 years and though Moto Guzzi Bikes were the only Italian machines to be known abroad and famous for their 498cc V-twin engine racing racing machines, the Moto Guzzi racing machines has never won a long distant race for instance, like the Ducati racing bikes. |
